VI Embratel Press Award

Awarding social consciousness

The Embratel Press Award, Brazil's top journalistic award, is a project by Embratel and the Rio de Janeiro Professional Journalists Union. In 2004, prizes totaling R$ 166.000 will be awarded to general journalistic reports in newspapers, magazines, radio, television and photography, telecommunications in specialized and non-specialized media, internet, sports and culture, plus regional prizes and honorable mentions.

This year, the novelty is the Cultural Story category, whose purpose is to reward the journalistic article that does more for the Brazilian culture in some of its various forms (literature, music, theater, cinema, dancing, etc.).

The Award comprises 12 categories among journalistic articles covering domestic and international works, as follows:

Newspaper/Magazine, Photography, Radio, TV, Journalism, Culture, Sports, Telecommunications in Specialized Media, Telecommunications in Non-Specialized Media, Foreign Correspondent, Investigative Journalism, Social Responsibility, and the Regional category (Midwest, Northeast, North, Southeast and South).

The best article among all competitors will earn the Barbosa Lima Sobrinho Grand Prix and the highest prize of the competition (R$ 20 thousand in 2004).
