The Call Centers turned to be a subsidiary of Embratel, BrasilCenter. By the next year, BrasilCenter was awarded the ISO 9002 certification.
BrasilCenter
ATM implemented at full throttle
Embratel continued the implementation on its data transmission network of the ATM (asynchronous transfer mode technology, which consists of transmitting data in "bursts? thanks to an expanded band network). This Embratel's exclusive technology provides top quality of voice, data and video sign integrated transmission.
Fiber optics nationwide
Over 12,000 miles were added to Embratel's fiber optics network over a four-year period; today its 18,000 miles of optic cables represent 23 times the circumference of the Earth. The main Brazilian cities are provided with 587 miles of urban optical rings with 2-155 Mbps connections.
Satellites in the air
The satellite department became a subsidiary called StarOne, which entered into a joint venture with Société Européenne des Satellites ses-Global. Where no fiber optics services are available, Embratel provides four geostationary satellites for domestic and international communications.
