Leading the way - key pioneering breakthroughs
1969
- Embratel has the control over Brazil's interstate and international telecommunications equipment and operations.

- The first Satellite Communications Earth Station is inaugurated on February 28 in Tanguá. During the opening ceremony, Pope Paul VI sent a special blessing transmitted directly from Rome.

- Embratel's South Trunk, connecting Curitiba to Porto Alegre, was inaugurated on March 26.

- The first commercial television transmission via satellite is carried out showing the launch of Apollo IX spaceship, which performed a coupling experience with a lunar module on March 3. A few months later, on July 16, another important event takes place: the transmission of the image of man stepping on the Moon.

- Inauguration of the Long Distance Direct Dialing (DDD) in Brazil, between São Paulo and Porto Alegre.
1970
- Transmission of the World Cup. Brazil became three-time world champion in Mexico, with live images of the event.
1971
- Embratel inaugurated Brazil's first semi-automatic international exchange.
1972
- The first color TV transmission in Brazil shows the Grape Festival of Caxias do Sul (RS).
1975
- The Domestic Telex Network starts its operations.
- Inauguration of the Long Distance International Dialing (IDD) in Brazil, connecting Brazil to a great number of countries.
1978
- Inauguration of the new Domestic Coast Stations Network (Renec) for the provision of Mobile Maritime Service (SMM).
1980
- Brus submarine cable, connecting Brazil to the US, becomes operational.
- In May 1980, Embratel introduces in Brazil the first exclusive data communication service in South America, Transdata, at first connecting Rio-São Paulo-Brasília, with capacity of 4.042 low speed circuits. Ten years later, the service had activated 28.300 circuits covering the entire country.
1984
- Activation of the Domestic Packet Switched Data Communication Network (RENPAC) offering switched connections and admitting a wide variety of equipment, protocols and speeds.
1985
- Brasilsat A1 satellite is launched to provide domestic communications.
1986
- Brasilsat A2 is launched to complete the satellite telecommunications system.
1989
- Inauguration of the São Paulo Telecommunications Center, which doubles the international traffic handling capacity.
1992
- Embratel launches the Digital Multi-Network integrating its voice, data, text, facsimile and videoconference services.
1993
- The first section of the Domestic Fiber Optics Network becomes operational, interconnecting Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
1994
- Inauguration of Americas I, the first international fiber optics submarine cable system between Brazil and the United States.
- Activation of Columbus II, the fiber optics submarine cable system connecting Brazil to Europe and Asia, interconnected to Americas I.
- Activation of Unisur fiber optics submarine cable system, interconnecting the Mercosur countries to the International Fiber Optics Network through the Domestic Fiber Optics Network installed by Embratel.
- Brasilsat B1 satellite is launched with new technology and enhanced capacity in comparison with Brasilsat A.
- The Rio de Janeiro Teleporto project is launched through a Rio-New York videoconference.
1995
- Inauguration of the Rio-Belo Horizonte fiber optics second major section.
- Brasilsat B2 satellite is launched with the same features of B1. The B series can serve the Mercosur countries.
- Activation of Transdata, Latin America's first data communication service.
