Awarding social awareness

The Embratel Press Award, Brazil's biggest journalistic prize, is a project by Embratel and the Rio de Janeiro Professional Journalists Union. This year it will distribute up to R$ 164.000,00 among general news articles in the press, magazine, radio, television and photography, specialist and non-specialist telecommunications, Internet and sports media, in addition to regional awards

This year, the award has a lot of new categories. Firstly there is the Tim Lopes Prize to award the new investigative journalism category. Secondly, there is the Social Responsibility category, aimed at announcing business and individual achievements, which may encourage further actions toward social works that will benefit deprived individuals and communities and help reduce social inequalities and improve the quality of life in our country.

Authors of articles first published between July 2002 and June 2003 are eligible candidates. Articles published before July 2002 and reproduced in a second edition between July 2002 and June 2003 will not be eligible. It should be reminded that only journalists with a professional registration can participate.

The award comprises 13 categories covering the entire domestic and international journalistic production, as follows:

Newspaper/Magazine, Photography, Radio, TV, Internet, Sports news, Telecommunications, Specialist, Non-specialist, Foreign and Regional Correspondent, Investigative Journalism and Social Responsibility.
