Embratel

The meeting to form the Jury of the 9th Embratel Press Award was held at Academia Brasileira de Letras, by initiative of members Cícero Sandroni and Arnaldo Niskier who are part of the select group of members of the jury, which includes journalist and writer Zuenir Ventura, Ethevaldo Siqueira and others.
The meeting had a special motivation: to encourage the production of cultural articles in 2008, the centennial of ABL patron Machado de Assis, and a rich cultural agenda involving tributes to Jorge Amado, Padre Antonio Vieira, ABI, the Japanese immigration and the 200 years of the arrival of the Portuguese royal family in Brazil.
	The ABL meeting put the jury of the Embratel Press Award together so they could have the first contact with the news reports of this year, and prepare the tenth anniversary of the event in 2008.

In the meeting at Academia Brasileira de Letras the jury of the Embratel Press Award learned about the first numbers of the event this year, which has 1082 journalists from all over Brazil and 1069 articles - text and video - published in newspapers, magazines, the Internet, TV and radio stations.

Of these, 231 news reports were about regional themes, and the regional jury selected 16 of them as finalists. In other words, their authors have already ensured their participation in the grand final to take place on November 18 in Rio de Janeiro, when they will be competing for the first prize in their respective regions, and for the Barbosa Lima Sobrinho Grand Prix.
