8th EMBRATEL PRESS AWARD


Record number of applications = 1.131 works (compared to 976 in 2005)

Record number of journalists = 1306 (compared to 718 in 2005)


The eighth Embratel Press Award received 1.131 works, among the 17 different categories, sent by 1306 journalists from all over Brazil, exceeding the numbers of the seven previous years.*

The project, considered today the most important national journalistic award focused on the Reporter's activity, is an initiative of Embratel with the support of its subsidiary Star One, of the Rio de Janeiro Professional Journalists Union and of the Rio de Janeiro Photographic and Cinematographic Reporters Association (Arfoc).

As last year's award, the project is supported by the tax incentives of the cultural incentive act of the Ministry of Culture (Rouanet Act) and by the Culture Secretariat of the State of Rio de Janeiro (ICMS Act).

This year, up to R$ 166 thousand will be distributed to the best 18 journalistic works registered in the following categories: Newspaper/Magazine, Photography, Cinematography, Radio, TV, Cultural Journalism, Sports, Telecommunications in Specialized Media, Telecommunications in Non-specialized Media, Foreign Correspondent, Investigative Journalism, Social Responsibility, and five regional categories (Midwest, Northeast, North, Southeast and South), plus an honorable mention.

The best journalistic work chosen among the finalists of all categories will receive the Barbosa Lima Sobrinho Grand Prix.

The national, telecommunications and international categories received 884 applications, and the regional categories received 247 applications. The numbers are the following per category:
